Dr. Isaac Olajide Areo is an Associate Professor of Environmental Resource Management, specializing in soil, water, vegetation, and sustainable development. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Resource Management from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (2019), an M.Tech in Environmental Management from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (2011), and a B.Sc. in Geography from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (2006).
With over 15 years of academic and research experience, Dr. Areo has served in progressive teaching and research roles, including Senior Lecturer at the University of Abuja (2019–2024) and University of Lay Adventist Kigali (2024–2025). He is currently serving as a Technical Aid Corps Volunteer at the University of Lay Adventist Kigali, Rwanda, where he continues to contribute to teaching, research, and academic leadership. His teaching portfolio covers Environmental Impact Assessment, Pedology and Climatology, Biogeography, Remote Sensing, Hydrology, and Research Methodology. He has supervised 55 undergraduate projects and several postgraduate theses on carbon sequestration, urban green spaces, and sustainable land use.
Dr. Areo’s expertise integrates environmental resource management, soil and water studies, vegetation analysis, remote sensing and GIS applications, sustainable development, climate resilience, and academic leadership in research supervision. His research and teaching emphasize practical solutions to environmental challenges, bridging theory with applied sustainability practices.
He has published extensively in leading journals such as the Ethiopian Journal of Environmental Studies & Management, African Journal of Geographical Sciences, and Osun Geographical Review. His recent works (2023–2025) explore soil nutrient dynamics, reforestation for biodiversity enhancement, circular economy approaches to waste management, and urban environmental sustainability. He has also contributed to conference papers, book chapters, and international workshops, underscoring his commitment to advancing environmental science and sustainable development.
Beyond academia, Dr. Areo has served as a consultant for the North East Development Commission (NEDC) on energy efficiency, briquette production, and waste management, and collaborated with the International Red Cross on waste analysis projects in Rwanda. He has also contributed to national development through roles as an examiner for major examination councils and as an election collation officer for Nigeria’s Independent Electoral Commission.
He is a member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers, the Nigerian Environmental Society, and the International Association for Impact Assessment. His contributions have earned him multiple awards, including the Silver Award for Meritorious Service (University of Abuja, 2023) and recognition for his academic and cultural impact.
